Abstract
As climate change and human impact continue to strain our planet's natural habitats and resources, water scarcity is becoming a pressing concern and is projected to have devastating implications for areas already suffering from lack of water availability as well as areas that are not currently water scarce, but will be in the future. In an effort to find and promote alternative solutions to wasteful water usages in everyday life, I propose that Allegheny College should implement a composting toilet facility on their campus. I researched existing toilet brands as well as local legal guidelines and narrowed my focus to three potential toilet models that are best suited for Allegheny College and then compared them in capacity, cost, and maintenance. The results of the analysis showed that the Clivus Multrum M54 Trailhead composting toilet is the best suited model for Allegheny College, on the grounds of convenience and legality and would work well in any location on campus or campus owned.
