Abstract
Industrial food production can make one feel ambivalent. Are taste and nutrition at the top of the list, or are convenience and ease of preparation more important? Many of us eat our meals alone, in front of the television or computer, on the way to class, and behind the wheels of our cars. Packaged foods are designed to convince us that our basic nutritional needs will be fulfilled; however, we cannot see what happens on the production lines. How do we determine what is “good” and what is “bad” for us to eat, if we don’t know what is really in our food? Food is a basic part of our existence. I show that it is something we should take ownership of and strive to connect with on a personal level.
