Abstract
This study examines the impact of welfare state typology and generosity on equitable human development, measured through the Inequality-Adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI) from 2015 to 2022. Drawing on Esping-Andersen’s welfare state typology and Scruggs’ Generosity Index, the analysis combines regression models of fifteen countries with case studies of Norway, Italy, and the United States. Findings indicate that both welfare generosity and typology are predictors of IHDI, with social democratic states exhibiting higher generosity levels and stronger development outcomes. These results suggest that measuring generosity alongside typology offers a more precise understanding of welfare state effectiveness.
