Abstract
Sodium Borohydride was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for a galvanic replacement reaction to obtain hollow gold nanoparticles (HAuNPs). The HAuNPs have a resonance peak at 980 nm which have properties that are reliable for a potential drug delivery system and target therapy treatment for cancer. Methyl Orange, Chrysoine Resorcinol, and Acid Orange 5 dyes were used as a model for loading a drug into the HAuNPs. The dyes were used to determine if polarity and bulk have an effect on the loading capacity of HAuNPs. The dyes showed that loading is possible. Methyl Orange loaded the highest in concentration, while Acid Orange 5 was bound stronger to the HAuNPs. Chrysione Resorcinol did not load any dye to the HAuNPs. The trade off is good binding vs higher concentration of dye loading.
