Abstract
Acutec Precision Aerospace is a small aerospace manufacturing company located in Meadville, PA. Throughout this project, I worked with Acutec to determine ways to reduce their energy consumption within their Meadville facility. Doing this led to cost savings as well as creating a competitive advantage with the marketing of being a green company. I researched how the usage of renewable energy from the implementation of solar panels, changes to the lighting system, and a more energy-efficient central heating and cooling system can reduce energy consumption within Acutec. Using tools such as PVWatts I determined where solar panels could potentially be installed as well as estimates of the energy production the systems would generate. From conducting my research I found ways that Acutec Precision Aerospace can reduce its energy consumption which will not only benefit the environment but also lead to increased profits and stronger customer relationships. This is an important change for Acutec as new regulations within Europe which is where their biggest customers are located businesses are now required to publicly release their carbon emissions and energy consumption for the year. In this project, I conducted a cost-benefit analysis of the different suggestions made to determine what future cost/savings there would be after implementing the new policies.
