Abstract
Faculty and staff of color in higher education face obstacles and plights that White counterparts do not due to their racial and intersecting identities. This project expands on the current scholarship and the experiences of employees of color in higher education through the lenses of Identity Taxation and Critical Race Theory among other relevant concepts. The bulk of
this project entailed interviewing former faculty and staff of color and giving a glance into their experiences while working at Allegheny College. One objective of this formal documentation is to inform the beloved institution on ways to fulfill its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The intention is not to document or target negative experiences but to instead give the participant the platform to voice their opinion and tell their story. Although their stories do critique the Institution and provide suggestions to improve Allegheny, they recognize issues can also apply to other universities and colleges. Finally, this work acknowledges that there are redeeming qualities and positive experiences throughout their time, but this does not lessen their concerns or challenges. It is out of tough love and respect for Allegheny to be its best that this project is conducted.
