Abstract
Destination resorts are all over the world and people visit them everyday. The objective of this study was to define what makes a resort a destination resort and how destination resorts compete in the marketplace. Literature review found that destination resorts can be broken down into many different categories and research spans much information and focus. This study will tackle the industry analysis/ synopsis classification of research as well as specify in operations/management. Within this study, the market structure of destination resorts was broken down and categorized as a monopolistic competition. Within that market, two resorts were studied to determine how Porter’s Five Forces are implemented in the industry. It was found that Tops’l Beach and Racquet Resort lacks using Porter’s Five Forces to better its position whereas Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort implements many strategies to better its position in the market.
