Abstract
Bacteria can commonly be spread through contact as they survive on surfaces for differing amounts of time, depending on the type of bacteria and the condition of the surface. To stop the spread of bacteria, we can employ different disinfectant methods. This study aimed to understand the effectiveness of disinfectant wipes when looking at surfaces in the gym setting. The objective was to examine surfaces at the Wise Fitness Center on the Allegheny College campus to model the effectiveness of disinfectant wipe use. The goal was to examine how the wipes were being used, test if the wipes are effective, and to model their use on a gym setting. From the data, recommendations were made to ensure that the Wise Fitness Center was making the best decisions and following the most effective protocol for disinfection in this setting. In response to this research, we are able to know the effectiveness of the disinfectant wipes in a gym setting. Looking at these results is an important factor in examining how to better kill bacteria in the gym setting and therefore lower the spread of bacteria.
