Abstract
The National Football League (NFL) has been a rapidly growing and successful industry and brand. The NFL is consistent with keeping up with marketing trends to continue this success and engagement with its fans. Marketing strategies have been shifting from traditional strategies into digital and social media strategies to be tailored to connect the most effectively with the current population. Effective marketing strategies allow the NFL to engage with fans, boost overall attendance and revenue streams related to the league, and enhance their brand image and visibility. This paper explores these marketing strategies through case studies of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers with the methodology of interviews with the heads of merchandise for each team. It was found that traditional marketing strategies have become less important, and the digital world has created more opportunities for NFL teams to market their merchandise the most successfully online. It was concluded that there are no uniform techniques that each NFL team focuses on, and each team combines different strategies that they feel are most effective for their company and brand.
