Abstract
Domestic Violence has been recognized as a human rights issue since the 1990s. Over the last thirty years, major changes were made to ensure the safety and resources of victims and survivors. However, many factors come into play, leading victims to be exposed to domestic violence. Legislative bills have been presented and signed by Congress, but that does not stop abusers. Low socioeconomic classes are more prone to domestic violence than any other class. Social media and technological features are causing more harm than good to victims and survivors. In order to prevent this societal issue from increasing, advocacy and women's empowerment are enforced from an economic standpoint. Understanding different policies and patterns in socio-economic factors brings awareness of the need to look for outliers that may be at risk. Technology is a significant factor in everyone’s life, from communicating through text to updating followers on social media platforms. The paper uses a combination of a case analysis and analytical approach to examine these characteristics and explain why the patterns exist. Women who earn low to no income are at risk, specifically if their partner has a violent past. Social media platforms established conditions to allow users to block and report anyone who violates their privacy. U.S. legislation and federal laws provide support to victims and survivors in resources.
