Abstract
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are carcinogenic environmental pollutants. In this work, SERS and SEIRA were utilized to determine the effectiveness of Ag-BNNS as a supporting substrate for PAH detection. Calixarene was tested as a potential surface modification on Ag colloids to better detect PAHs. Fluorescence Spectrophotometry was used to monitor the guest-host complexing of pyrene and calixarene. Enhancement of adsorbed substrates was seen in SERS using Ag-BNNS. Fluorescence results were inconclusive in determining the Keq value of the pyrene-calixarene complex.
