Abstract
The brick and tile industry is a substantial contributor to the global greenhouse gas emissions and a partial contributor to the planet’s current global climate crisis. This project will examine the issues of the brick and tile industry and explore possible solutions. This approach will examine the corporate brick industry, and apply holistic sustainable practices to that industry through a reimagining of standard processes within the recreational pottery industry. Specifically this paper will examine the use of alternative fuels as well as consciously harvested materials. These sustainable practices include the utilization of waste vegetable oil (WVO) and locally harvested clay. This paper will explore the utilization of the alternative fuel (WVO) as a viable option for firing ceramic objects. Through that lens the paper will generate suggestions suitable for the large-scale brick and tile industries.
